The portfolio of Current Protection from ON Semiconductor includes a variety of current protection devices, including electronic fuses (eFuse), power distribution switches, load switches, high side switches, hot-swap controllers, and IEEE802.3at Power-over-Ethernet Power Delivery (PoE-PD) interface controllers. These devices are engineered for applications where heavy capacitive loads and short-circuits are likely to be encountered. They are designed to buffer the load device from an excessive input voltage that can damage sensitive circuits. They include overvoltage clamp circuits to limit the output voltage during transients but does not shut the unit down, thereby allowing the load circuit to continue operation. The portfolio of Current Protection devices includes those suitable for the most demanding environments and capable of withstanding harsh environments such as hot-swap and cable ESD events. The portfolio of Current Protection devices offers compliance to a variety of standards, including IEC61000-4-2 (Level 4), 8.0 kV (Contact), and 15 kV (Air), UL, and IEC60950-ED2-AMD1, among others. The ideal performance characteristics and features of the Current Protection devices include Overvoltage and Undervoltage lockout (OVLO and UVLO), very fast overcurrent detection response, built-in soft start that prevents inrush current (closed-loop operation), and soft turn-off. Additional features include reverse-voltage protection, adjustable and fixed current limit protection, thermal protection, very low standby current, and integrated current monitoring with Alert FLAG (BAR) output for fault identification. These features provide real-time current sensing, help to reduce the overall bias of current of the system, reduce power losses allowing for optimum thermal dissipation, and the flexibility to configure for various applications requiring different current limits. Applications include overcurrent protection for auxiliary, power supply, SATA Power Hot-Plug for HDD/SSD, hot-plug fans for servers, industrial power supplies, motor control, Industrial grade protected relays, USB 2.0/3.0/3.1 VBUS, USB Type−C PD Charging, motherboards, and Power over Ethernet Powered Device (PoE-PD) interfaces and integrated DC-DC converter controllers. The portfolio also includes AEC-Q101 Qualified and PPAP Capable options specifically engineered and qualified for automotive industry applications, including Audio and Infotainment System, Satellite Radio, Navigation, and Instrument Cluster.
